The Amgen Foundation supports Summer School of Science

An international summer workshop organized in Croatia by ASP alumna Matilda Males

02.05.2016

Summer School of Science is an international summer camp for high school students held annualy in Croatia. The goal of the project is to provide students with hands-on scientific experience they cannot get in the regular school education, to give them role models and promote international and intercultural understanding. Participation in the School gives talented high school students the opportunity to explore scientific ideas within the group of peers, mentors and renowned scientists.

The event takes place in Pozega, Croatia, and is divided in two camps, based on the participants' age:

  • S3 takes place August 10th-August 17th 2016 and is adapted for 9th and 10th grade students
  • S3++ takes place July 30th-August 9th 2016 and is adapted for 11th and 12th grade students

This year the initiative is being supported with a generous grant by the Amgen Foundation and King Baudouin Foundation, making them main sponsors of Summer School of Science in 2016.

Matilda Males, 2009 LMU Amgen Scholars Programme Alumna, is involved in organising the S3++ camp. Currently she is pursuing a PhD degree in genomics at EMBL in Heidelberg.
